Elmira tops Blue Devils in OT

FREDONIA, N.Y. -- Elmira scored late in regulation and midway through overtime for a 5-4 non-conference win over Fredonia State at the Steele Hall Ice Arena.

Dyland Herold (Delta, B.C.) scored at 2:03 of the overtime after Darcy Vaillancourt (Bonfield, Ont.) tied the game with 4:46 left in regulation.

The Blue Devils fell to 3-7 overall, while Elmira improved to 5-5-2.

No player on either team had more than one goal, although Fredonia State's Chris de Bruyn (Calgary, Alberta) had three assists.

The Blue Devils led twice in the game, first at 1-0 on a goal by Jordan Oye (Richmond, B.C.), his seventh of the season, at 5:42 of the first period.

An unassisted goal by Will McLaughlin (Mountain Top, Pa.), his third of the season, enabled Fredonia State to take its second lead, 4-3, with 28 seconds left in the second period.

Elmira's Darren MacDonald (Stittsville, Ont.) made 26 saves. Fredonia State freshman Mark Friesen (Calgary, Alberta) was credited with 21 stops.

Fredonia State returns to SUNYAC action Saturday at 7 p.m. when Morrisville State visits the Ice Arena.
