PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- After taking a 3-0 lead through two periods, the Fredonia State men's hockey team held on for a 3-2 win, defeating Johnson and Wales for the second straight night.

Ben Waldman and Jordan Oye scored on power plays to give the Devils a 2-0 lead in the first period. Chris de Bruyn scored the third Devil goal mid-way through the second period.

At 4:57 into the game, Waldman used assists from Alex Morton and Brett Mueller to open the scoring with his third goal of the season. With 12 seconds left in the first, Oye's score also came with a man advantage, using assists from Bryan Ross and Mitch Kulikoski. It was Oye's eighth on the season.

In the second period, deBryun's second goal this season came on assists from Oye and Steve Rizer with 7:14 left. The goal was scored five-on-five after the Devils' Bradley Nunn and J & W's Joe Simeone were sent to the box for hitting after the whistle.

J & W regrouped and scored a pair of goals in less that three minutes into the third. Jeremiah Ketts found the net 41 seconds into the frame. Colin Flynn scored at the 3:55 mark.

The game featured 17 penalties. The Devils were whistled seven times compared to 10 for the Wildcats, which included a pair of game-misconduct penalties. The Devils received nine power play chances, converting twice, while J & W was 0 for 4.

For Fredonia State, Jeff Holloway (1-2) earned his first win of the season making 18 saves in goal. The Devils held a large advantage in shots on goal, peppering the Wildcat's Jeff Menzel with 37 shots as he recorded 34 saves.

The Wildcats fall to 4-4-1 on the season.

Fredonia State improves to 5-8-0. They are off for the semester break. Next game will be Jan. 8 vs. Hobart in Steele Hall.
