BOX SCORE
FREDONIA, N.Y.— The Fredonia State Blue Devils played their most complete game of the season to upend the Elmira Soaring Eagles, 59-40, at Steele Hall.
The Devils have won two games in a row and improve to 2-3 overall, while the Soaring Eagles drop to 1-4.
The Blue Devils used a full court press to start off the first half which disrupted the Soaring Eagles offensive flow. When Elmira did break the press, they used the three point shot, making three of their first four baskets from behind the arc. Fredonia State would eventually slow the hot shooting of Elmira, as they would miss their next nine three point shots.
With the score knotted at 16 apiece, the Devils took control. Elmira would go eight and a half minutes without scoring a basket as Fredonia State used an array of scorers to go on a 9-0 run. The Devils would eventually hold a 10 point advantage at halftime, leading the Eagles, 28-18.
The Blue Devils continued their stifling defense to suffocate Elmira's outside shooters, limiting them to just 1-10 shooting from behind the arc in the second half. The Devils pulled away after the intermission by controlling the offensive glass, grabbing 11 offensive boards. Fredonia State out rebounded the visitors altogether 46-25.
Branden McKenney provided a presence in the paint, collecting a team high six rebounds while scoring 10 points. Joseph Monahan led all scorers with 12 points, nine which came in the second half.
Bobby DiPiazza paced the Eagles with 10 points. Noah Zazulia contributed eight points.
The Devils move into SUNYAC play this weekend, taking on Oswego State on Friday, December 3rd and Cortland on Saturday. Both games are at Steele Hall.
