FREDONIA, N.Y. -- A basket by freshman
Becky Hebert (Hilton) with 19 seconds left gave Fredonia State a 66-65 overtime victory Tuesday over D'Youville at the Steele Hall Fieldhouse.
Hebert caught an inbounds pass from sophomore
Grace Moore (Fredonia) for an open jumper from just to right of the foul line. The Blue Devils kept the possession alive with one offensive rebound and a loose ball that went out of bounds off a D'Youville player.
The Spartans called two timeouts in the final 14.3 seconds but were unable to counter. Hannah Norton missed two free throws with 6.8 seconds left. A rebound by Alyx Iversen gave the Spartans one final possesion, but it was erased when Moore stole the ensuing inbounds pass.
Fredonia State junior
Nicole Calbi (Olean) dribbled out the clock.
Hebert finished with 13 points to lead the Blue Devils, who improved to 2-2 this season. They also improved to 11-0 all-time vs. the Spartans.
Senior guard
Caroline Hourihan (Buffalo/Nardin) added 12 points and eight rebounds, while junior
Liz Wierbinski (Camillus/West Genesee) added 10 points.
Calbi had a team-high five assists while freshman
Jaimie Warren (Lakeview/Frontier) came off the bench to grab eight rebounds.
D'Youville's Beats led both teams with 25 points and 15 rebounds. She had 18 points and 20 rebounds when the teams met last season.
Norton added 16 points for the Spartans (1-3) while Kaitlyn Roland had 14. Iversen finished with 12 rebounds and led both teams with six assists.
Fredonia State returns to action Saturday at Geneva (Pa.)
