FREDONIA, N.Y. -- The Fredonia State men's basketball team opened Tuesday's contest vs. visiting D'Youville with stingy defense and cruised to a 66-48 victory.
The Devils built a 24-2 lead, allowing the Spartans only one field goal 16:52 into the half. They held their biggest lead of the game, 27-4, with 2:44 left in the frame.
The Devils were up 29-10 at the break.
Kevin Mitchell (Lake Luzerne/Hadley Luzerne) paced the Devils with 10 points.
D'Youville outscored the Devils 38-37 in the second half.
Curtis Fluker (Waycross, Ga./Fleming Island, Fla.) led the Devils with 13 points for the game. Mitchell finished with 12 and
Adam Smith (Big Flats/Horseheads) netted 10.
Leonard Smith (Brooklyn/Nazareth Regional) grabbed eight rebounds.
D'Youville (0-4) was led by Greg Osika with 12 points and six steals. Tamar Redden and Eric Baylor had 11 apiece.
The Devils improve to 1-3 on the season. They are back home next Tuesday vs. Elmira College.
