Behrend pulls away in second half

FREDONIA, N.Y.—The Fredonia State Blue Devils dropped their season opener to the Penn State Behrend Lions, 60-47, at Steele Hall.

The first half saw the Behrend gain a slim 26-23 advantage. There were seven lead changes and three ties in the half.

Curtis Fluker came off the bench to score the Devils' final seven points before the intermission.

The Devils kept the score to within four in the second half as Behrend led, 31-27, but that would be as close as they would get the rest of the way. Behrend shot 55 percent from the field in the half, outscoring the Devils, 34-24.

Fluker led the way for the Devils in his first collegiate game with 15 points on six of eight shooting and added six rebounds and three blocked shots.

For the Lions, Russ Conley provided some physical play in the paint with 15 points and eight rebounds, both team highs, while Justin Kovac chipped in 12 points.

The Devils take to the road as they participate in the Allegheny Tip-Off Tournament on November 20th against Catholic University at 6 p.m.
