BOX SCORE
FREDONIA, N.Y. -- The Fredonia State hockey team wasted little time jumping on top of Brockport and cruised to an impressive 7-0 victory on Saturday evening.
Just 21 seconds into the game senior
Alex Morton (Cannington, Ont.) gave the Devils a 1-0 lead. It was Morton's team-leading fourth goal of the season. Sophomore
Will McLaughlin (Mountain Top, Pa.) upped the lead to 2-0 at the 15:50 mark.
The Devils would score twice in the second period, with junior
Bryan Ross (Livonia, Mich.) and senior
Jordan Oye (Richmond, B.C.) each scoing. Ross got off a spectacular shot, as he was hit in the act of shooting, falling to the ice from just outside the crease, beating the Brockport goaltender. Oye's goal was his fourth of the season and gave the Devils a 4-0 lead heading into the third.
The Devils would add three more goals to give the 7-0 final. Ross, freshman
Andrew Christ (Spokane, Wash.) and sophomore
Ben Waldman (Pittsford, N.Y.) accounted for the final three scores. Waldman's goal was the game's lone power play.
Oye also added a pair of assists on the evening.
Mark Friesen (Calgary, Alberta) earned the shutout in goal making 31 saves. Brockport's Oliver Wren allowed all seven goals while making 40 saves.
The Devils improve to 2-3 in the conference and 2-5 overall. Brockport drops to 0-5 in the SUNYAC and 0-6 overall.
The Devils make the trip to the North Country next weekend to take on Potsdam and Plattsburgh.
