ELMIRA, N.Y. – Fredonia State freshman Kayleigh Forger made eight saves in order to post her second shutout of the season, a 2-0 victory over the Elmira Soaring Eagles.

Fredonia State improved to 5-6, while Elmira fell to 0-9-1.

The Blue Devils scored both their goals in the second half. In the 65th minute, Maria Green connected for her first collegiate goal, which proved to be the game-winner. Taylor Wingerden played a corner kick to the far post to Emily Beh, who made a one-touch pass to Green.

Julie LaPolla added to the lead in the 88th minute. A shot by Wingerden was stopped by Elmira goalkeeper Megan Lowe, but LaPolla converted the rebound into an open net. It was her third goal of the season.

The Blue Devils had a 30-16 advantage in shots, with Wingerden taking 11 shots of her own, five of them on net.

Forger's shutout lowered her goals-against average to 2.08. She and the Blue Devils are back in action Friday at home against Cortland starting at 4 p.m.
