FREDONIA, N.Y. -- The Fredonia State men's soccer team handled Grove City, 3-0, on Wednesday afternoon.
The Devils used three first-half goals to take command of the game. Peter Dagel (Rochester/Gates-Chili), #Brian Courtney (Buffalo/Kenmore West) and Cory Paine# (Ontario/Wayne) each scored during the period.
With the wind at their back, the Devils pressed play in the first half. In the 24th minute, Dagel took a Luke Spencer (Rochester/Irondequoit) pass and dribbled through the box for the first score. It was his second goal of the season.
Courtney would score in the 41st minute. The Grove City goalkeeper bobbled a shot on goal. Courtney would clean up the loose ball with his first goal of the season.
Less than three minutes late, Paine scored his first goal of the season on a cross from Luke Tylutki (Pittsford/Pittsford-Mendon).
The Devils dominated play, with 12 shots on goal, compared to three by Grove City. Goaltkeeper Bobby McGinnis (Elmira/Elmira Free Academy) made three saves in earning his sixth shutout of the season.
Grove City falls to 12-4-2. Fredonia State improves its record to 10-8-0.
Next up for the Devils will be the semi-finals of the SUNYAC Tournament on Friday, Oct. 5 in Oneonta.
