Devils clinch share of SUNYAC crown

FREDONIA, N.Y. -- A 1-0 victory over Geneseo on Saturday earned the Blue Devil men's soccer team a share of the SUNYAC regular-season title. The Devils finish at 7-2-0 in conference play, tied with Oneonta and Brockport. Based on head-to-head competition, Oneonta will be the No. 1 seed and the Devils will be the No. 2 seed when the conference tournament opens play.

The Devils used a first-half goal from John Grabowski (Middleport/Royalton-Hartland) to claim the victory. Luke Tylutki (Pittsford/Pittsford-Mendon) assisted, as Grabowski headed the ball into the net.

For the game, Geneseo out-shot the Devils, 14-6, but each goalkeeper was credited with two saves. Bobby McGinnis (Elmira/Elmira Free Academy) earned the shutout for the Blue Devils. Sam Murphy took the loss for Geneseo.

The Devils held a 6-2 advantage in corner kicks, while Geneseo was whistled for 17 fouls compared to four fouls by Fredonia State.

Geneseo drops to 5-4 in the conference, and 8-7-1 overall.

The Devils improve to 9-8-0 overall, with one non-league game vs. Grove City next Wednesday before the SUNYAC Tournament.
