FREDONIA, N.Y. -- Fredonia State senior John Grabowski (Middleport/Roy-Hart) scored the game-winning goal as the Blue Devils took down the Plattsburgh Cardinals in a pivotal SUNYAC contest.
Grabowski's winner improved the Devils record to 7-8 overall and 5-2 in the SUNYAC, which places them ahead of the Cardinals, who fell to 5-3 in the conference and 11-3-1 overall.
The visitors from Plattsburgh started off the scoring late in the first half with a break-away goal at 34:32 by Matt Hamilton. The Cardinals outshot the Devils 10-1 in the first half, with the visitors heading into the intermission with a 1-0 lead.
The second half would be a completely different story. The Blue Devils controlled the flow of the game and maintained possession throughout the period.
Ryan O'Donnell (Orchard Park) kicked in the equalizer for Fredonia State at 56:58 on a through ball from Tyler Williams (Orchard Park). The Blue Devils built off the goal as they kept knocking on the door with scoring opportunities.
Grabowski proved to be the game's hero at 64:08 as he headed home the goal over the outreached arms of Plattsburgh goalie Andy Heighington. Stephen Ahern (Nottingham U.K./Billbourough) was credited with the assist as he played the ball into the box from midfield.
The Devils outshot the Cardinals in the second half 12-2. Devils goalie Bobby McGinnis (Elmira/Elmira Free Academy) was credited with making three saves.
The Devils are off until next weekend. They take on first-place Brockport on Friday at 3 p.m. and fifth-place Geneseo on Saturday at 1 p.m., both at University Stadium.
