Hess broke a 32-year-old school record this past weekend when he finished the 3,000-meter run in 8:30.02 at Cornell's Marc Deneault Invitational. A senior from Newark, N.Y., and North Rose-Wolcott High School, Hess was .22 of one second faster than the previous record, set by Kevin Rumsey in 1983 with a time of 8:30.24. Hess finished in second place in the meet.
