SAN ANTONIO, Texas -- Four Fredonia State divers posted national provisional qualifying scores Friday while competing at Trinity University.
They were junior
Sarah Ficarro (Owego), sophomore
Ashley Keller (Lockport), and sophomore
Katelyn Haley (Canandaigua) on the women's side, and junior
Ryan Fuller (Endicott) among the men.
Ficarro won the women's 1-meter springboard event with an 11-dive score of 463.55. Keller was third with 440.20 points, and Haley was sixth with 396.80.
"The top six women in the competition qualified for nationals," Blue Devil assistant coach
John Crawford said. "That's the first time I remember that happening in all my years of coaching."
In addition, senior
Leanne Kies (Owego) earned 364.05 points and finished eighth Friday.
In the men's 3-meter event, Fuller scored 476.60 points and finished second overall to a national-caliber diver from an NCAA Division II program.
Falling three points short of the national provisional score was senior
John Rodman (Livonia), with 436.65 points. Rodman finished third and sophomore
Joshua Croft (Corning) was fourth with 355.25 points.
The women's 3-meter and men's 1-meter competitions begin are Saturday.
