4x400-relay team talks about thier coach, Justin McQuality

Ryan Maloney: What did you think of Q the first time you met him?

Anna Dambacher: Well, I’ve known him for a long time, but man, well, what do I think of Q? Passionate. Passionate, mellow, sometimes too mellow, sometimes too intense. That’s Q. You never know when a joke is going to stick or when he’s going to be offended by it (laughing).

RM: Can I publish that?

AD: Yeah (laughs). There’s times when we’re goofing off in practice a little bit, and he’ll laugh, and if we do it again he’ll be like, “Guys, you really need to get it together! Stop!” He’ll get really mad. One time I was dancing behind him and he kind of freaked out on me (all laugh). He was like, “Can you seriously stop?” And I was like, “I’m sorry! I’m sorry!”

Laura Morrison: We were all cracking up (laughs).

AD: It’s always relay practices because we always have so much fun, and that’s when we’re messing around and getting in trouble.

Brittany Feldman: Remember Mikayla yesterday? (pole vaulter Mikayla Capastrani). Oh my gosh.

AD: Oh man, she’s nuts and it’s great. It’s so much fun.

BF: Mikayla has by far the most personality on our team. There’re some days that Q can deal with a Mikayla and there’s some days he can’t.

AD: And that’s exactly how I’d describe Q. There’s days where he can put up with us, and there’s other days where it’s like, “No, I don’t have time for this.”
