NEW PALTZ, N.Y. -- Fredonia State was unable to generate enough offense on Friday afternoon, falling 10-0 to the New Paltz Hawks. The Devils were limited to just two hits on the day while New Paltz broke things open midway through the game.
The Devils two hits came from
Andrew Tucker who hit a double to left field in the seventh inning while
Zachary Richards hit a single to left field in the eighth. The Hawks did most of their damage in the bottom of the fifth inning, scoring four runs highlighted by a three-run home run from Wallace Kirkpatrick. They added two more runs in the seventh inning and four in the eighth to put the game out of reach.
On the mound,
Morgan Zientara got the start for the Devils and turned in a solid outing early, going six innings while allowing four runs (three earned) on eight hits and striking out four.
Seth Soultanidis and
Zachary Zentz followed in relief. New Paltz starter Michael Weed tossed 7.1 scoreless innings while allowing just two hits and striking out eight to earn the win.
Fredonia State moves to (1-10, 0-1) while New Paltz improves to (7-5, 1-0). The Devils will look to bounce back as they remain on the road for a doubleheader against New Paltz on Saturday, with first pitch set for 12:00 p.m.
