CLERMONT, Fla. -- Fredonia State pushed Ripon to the limit in Thursday's opener at Legends Way, extending a scheduled seven‑inning game into the ninth under the international tiebreaker before falling 4–3. The Blue Devils answered with one of their sharpest all‑around efforts of the trip in Game 2, a 5–1 win over Framingham State behind timely hitting and a complete‑game three‑hitter from
Kendall Phillips.
The Blue Devils (3-7) return to action Friday at Hancock Park with two more contests on their Fredonia trip — 1:45 p.m. vs. Wisconsin–Stevens Point and 3:45 p.m. vs. Trinity (Conn.).
Game 1 — Ripon 4, Fredonia 3 (9 innings)
Fredonia clawed its way back twice and forced extras behind a gritty outing from
Madison Lowe, who threw 8.1 innings, allowed just six hits, and yielded only two earned runs while striking out five.
The Blue Devils tied the game in the sixth when
Angelique Palacio singled and later scored on Lowe's two-out RBI hit inside the first-base bag — a sequence that included an outfield error that moved Lowe into scoring position.
Fredonia manufactured another run in the eighth when
Mia Eickhoff delivered a pinch‑hit infield single to move the tiebreak runner to third, eventually allowing Palacio to score on a fielder's choice. Ripon answered with the tying run in the bottom half, then walked it off in the ninth on Callissa Keller's RBI single to left
Lowe, Kayla Lynn, and Palacio accounted for Fredonia's three runs, while Lynn added a stolen base and reached twice.
Game 2 — Fredonia 5, Framingham State 1
Fredonia controlled the second game from the third inning on, striking for three unearned runs and never looking back.
Chloe Whittingham delivered the biggest swing of the day — a three‑run triple down the right‑field line.
The Blue Devils added two insurance runs in the sixth, capitalizing on a walk, a bunt single, and a bases‑loaded free pass to
Madison DeVore, followed by an RBI walk to Lowe. DeVore reached base three times (single, two walks), stole a pair of bases, and drove in a run. Whittingham finished 2‑for‑3 with three RBI, while
Sophie Reed added a bunt single and scored.
Phillips was outstanding in the circle, tossing a complete‑game three‑hitter with five strikeouts and just one walk
