Stormy Monday: Rain halts Devils vs. Farmingdale

CLERMONT, Fla. -- After dropping to 0-5 with a loss to East Connecticut State, Fredonia State softball had the sixth game of its Florida trip halted when a thunderstorm rolled through Legends Field on Monday afternoon.

The Blue Devils and Farmingdale State game was stopped with one out in the top of the third inning, as were all the other games on adjoining fields, as thunder and dark clouds preceded a downpour, making all fives fields at the complex unplayable for the day. The game is officially suspended, with Farmingdale clinging to a 2-1 lead, until a suitable time came be arranged for the teams to resume in Florida. If no day and time is found, the game will be canceled.

Earlier Monday, the Blue Devils fell to East Connecticut State, 11-6.

The Blue Devils matched the Warriors early, getting on the board in the first when Eva Gnadzinski delivered an RBI single, her first collegiate hit, to score Madison Lowe. After falling behind 2–1, Fredonia tied it again in the third on a no‑doubt homer by Avery Hill to left‑center.

Fredonia continued to pressure Eastern pitching. Brooke Caldwell doubled to start the fifth and scored on a sacrifice fly by Kirsten Lajewski, while Lowe added an RBI single in the sixth. Gnadzinski capped her 3‑for‑3 day with an RBI double in the seventh.

Despite the offensive production, six Fredonia errors extended multiple innings for Eastern, including a three‑run fourth and a five‑run sixth that created separation.

Tuesday is an off day for the Blue Devils, then it's back to action Wednesday with games against Knox College and Clarkson at Hancock Park in Clermont. The first game is scheduled for a 10 a.m. start.
