CLERMONT, Fla. -- Fredonia State's offense remained silent for the second day in a pair of losses Monday at The Spring Games.
The Blue Devils had only one hit -- and RBI single by
Kirsten Lajewski -- in a 9-1 loss to No. 19 Wisconsin-Stevens Point. Lajewskl's hit to right scored
Chloe Whittingham, who walked leading off the fifth inning and was sacrificed to second by pinch-hitter
Angelique Palacio. The Blue Devils, down 5-1 at the time, loaded the bases later in the inning but were unable to capitalize.
The win lifted Stevens Point to 12-1 this spring. The Pointers are the second nationally ranked team Fredonia State has faced in two days. On Sunday, No. 4 Rowan took the measure of the Blue Devils.
In Monday's second game, the Blue Devils were outlasted by Framingham State, 5-1. While the offense showed a bit more life, the lone run came late in the game. Pinch-hitter
Emily Tytler, making her first collegiate plate appearance, singled to left-field and scored on a line double down the left-field line by
Claire Reccardi, who was also appearing in her first collegiate game.
On a day when all five Fredonia State pitchers made appearances,
Kendall Phillips was the most effective. After starting and taking the loss in Game 1, Phillips pitched 2 1/3 innings of scoreless, no-hit relief in the nightcap. She also struck out five Framingham State batters.
The Blue Devils are back in action Tuesday with two games at Legends Way complex. At 9 a.m., they meet No. 21 University of Wisconsin-Whitewater, followed by an 11:15 a.m. matchup against Hope College.
