Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Strong second half not enough

NEW PALTZ, N.Y. -- The New Paltz Hawks downed the Fredonia State men's basketball team, 88-68, on Friday. Jackson Brown (Latham, N.Y. / Catholic Central) led the Devils with 22 points. Another bright spot for the Devils was freshman  Malik Jemison (Buffalo, N.Y. / Canisius). He poured in a career-high 19 points, besting the 17 points he scored the previous night. He was 7-15 from the floor and 3-6 from three-point range, and had a pair of free throws. He added six assists.

Alon Kremerman (Tel Aviv, Israel / Harishonim) led the Devils with 10 rebounds and chipped in six points.

Kreem George (Brooklyn, N.Y. / Brooklyn Collegiate) got the scoring going with a layup for the Devils. New Paltz answered with the next six points and would build a 24-point lead near the end of the half. The Hawks were aided by a 10-0 run that concluded at the midpoint of the first half, giving them a 23-9 lead at that time.

Fredonia State came out firing in the second half as its offense put up 49 points, outscoring New Paltz by three in the period. The Devils closed the game on a 19-7 run. Brown accounted for seven points in that spurt, Jemison added six, and freshman Elian Dominguez (Bronx, N.Y. / Frederick Douglass Academy) added four.

New Paltz outrebounded the Devils 44-41, and had an 11-7 edge in three pointers. The Hawks shot 48 percent from the floor to the Devils' 36 percent. Fredonia State did hit on 49 percent of its shots in the second half.

New Paltz (7-5 /4-2 SUNYAC) was paced by Ryan Blondo with 20 points, and Isiaih Bien-Aise had 17.

The Devils fall to 0-13 overall and 0-6 in the SUNYAC. They have a quick turnaround due to an adjusted conference schedule and earlier cancelations across the state. The men play host to Plattsburgh and Potsdam in Dods Hall on Monday and Tuesday as part of a women's/men's doubleheader. The series with their North Country opponents last week was postponed.
