POTSDAM, N.Y. -- Jacob Haynes (Whitby, Ont.) had a goal and an assist and Eric Bogart (London, Ont.) made 36 saves as Fredonia defeated Potsdam, 3-1, in SUNYAC men's hockey Friday at Maxcy Hall.

Haynes assisted on Fredonia's first goal and scored the second as the Blue Devils jumped to a 2-0 lead in the first period. Bogart was staked to a 3-0 lead before Potsdam's Vinny Caliguiri scored early in the third period. It was one of 19 shots Bogart faced in the final period.

The Blue Devils improved to 5-5-1 in the conference and 9-7-2 overall with their fifth straight win. In addition, they moved into a three-way tie with Buffalo State and Plattsburgh for third place in the SUNYAC. The Bengals have two games in hand and the Cardinals one game in hard on the Blue Devils.

Fredonia visits Plattsburgh at 4 p.m. Saturday.

The Blue Devils were on the power play when a shot from the top of the circle by Marcus Ortiz (Richardson, Texas) found the net at 5:48 of the first period. It was Ortiz's eighth goal of the season, five of them on power plays. Haynes added to the lead with his ninth goal on a redirection off a pass from Jimmy Morgan (Highlands Ranch, Col.) at 10:17. Haynes and Oskar Gerhardson (Haessleholm, Sweden) also picked up assist on the goal by Ortiz.

Bobby Polacek (Kingston, Pa.) added to Fredonia's lead with his sixth goal off a stretch pass from Jamie Young (Russell, Ohio) at 3:55 of the second period.

The Blue Devils had the better of the scoring chances for most of the game. Potsdam goaltender Brendan McMenimen was credited with 28 saves.
