BOXSCORE 1 | BOXSCORE 2 FREDONIA, N.Y. --  Fredonia State dug early hopes in both ends of its SUNYAC baseball doubleheader Sunday with the New Paltz Hawks.

The Blue Devils worked their way back into the first game before falling, 10-8, in nine innings. They dropped the nightcap, 5-0, in seven innings to fall to 14-7 overvall and 5-4 in the conference.

The Blue Devils fell behind 6-0 in the opener before rallying for five runs in the last of the third. Dillon Lowe had a two-run double and Ian Gallagher a two-run single during the uprising. It was the first of three times they pulled within one run, yet were unable to get over the hump.

New Paltz rebuilt its lead to 8-5 before Erik Krohl delivered a two-run single in the fifth inning. It was 9-7 New Paltz in the sixth when Lowe collected another RBI, his third of the game, on an infield ground out.

Anthony Repetto had four hits for the Hawks, while Gallagher and Krohl had two hits each for the Blue Devils. Kyle Morse (1-1) was the Fredonia State starting and losing pitcher while New Paltz starter Chris Pyz (2-1) picked up the win and Brian Solomon earned his second save.

In Game 2, the Hawks took advantage of early wildness by Fredonia State starting pitcher Angelo Sciandra. He walked the first two batters, threw a wild pitch, and allowed five runs on two hits in the top of the first. They were the only two hits New Paltz had the entire game.

New Paltz's Chris Chismar retired the first 11 batters before issuing a walking Brian Sheehan with two outs in the fourth. Lowe then broke up the no-hitter with a single, yet both runners were stranded.

Chismar (4-3) finished with a complete-game four-hitter while Sciandra (2-1) took the loss. Carl Wolf pitched two scoreless innings of relief. Evan Carmello worked one scoreless inning.

The three-game series concludes with a single game at 3 p.m. Monday.
