BOXSCORE

FREDONIA, N.Y. -- St. Anselm scored three goals in the third period to rally for a 4-2 win over Fredonia State in college men's hockey Friday.

Liam McKillup intercepted a pass and fired a shot from the right win off the far post to break a 2-2 tie with 6:23 remaining.

The Blue Devils (5-9-0) were awarded a five-minute power play with just under five minutes left, yet were unable to turn it into a tying goal despite keeping the puck in their offensive end for most of the time.

An empty-netter by St. Anselm's Joe Tebano with two-tenths of one second left resulted in the final margin. It was also a short-handed goal, the Hawks' second of the game.

Fredonia Stated led 1-0 as Chad Bennett (Burlington, Ont.) opened the scoring with his fourth goal of the season at 16:04 of the first period.

A Blue Devil turnover during their own power play enabled the Hawks (7-2-1) to tie the game 1-1 midway through the second period. Johnny Daniels intercepted a pass while on a forecheck and took two strides before ripping a shot past Blue Devil goaltender Tyler Palmerton (Manlius), the first of the two short-handed goals.

Making his first collegiate start and seeing his most extensive playing time as a Blue Devil, Palmerton was credited with 29 saves. He had played 16 minutes, 52 seconds in three seasons before Friday.

The Blue Devils regained the lead, 2-1, on a goal by Chris Jung (Sandy, Utah) at 17:28 of the second period. It was Jung's first goal of the season.

St. Anselm's Tucker Mullin evened the score, 2-2, at 3:01 of the third period before goals by McKillup and Tebano completed the scoring.

Nick Dries made 19 saves for the Hawks and improved his record to 4-0-0.

Fredonia State returns to action 3 p.m. Saturday vs. New England College.
