BOXSCORE 2 FORT MYERS, FLA. --
Sean Larson and
Kyle Grey combined to hold Plattsburgh to three runs over nine innings, long enough for the offense to erupt late, in an 8-3 win over Plattsburgh in the SUNYAC opener. The Cardinals took Game 2 by a score of 8-1.
Larson scattered eight hits and struck out four over seven innings without allowing a walk. Grey picked up the win with two innings of work allowing one run, striking out one and walking none. Defensively, the Devils racked up three pickoffs and a caught stealing to aid thier effort.
Plattsburgh took a 1-0 lead in the second on a base hit, hit by pitch, ground out and a single.
The Devils tied it in the fifth.
Conner Lorenzo roped a leadoff double and would eventually score on a single by
Dan Fetes.
Plattsburgh scored one run each in the seventh and eighth innings. Unfortunately for them, the Devil bats erupted for seven runs in the final two innings.
After a leadoff out in the eighth, Fetes,
Dillon Lowe,
Brian Sheehan and
Alex Foster ripped four straight hits for Fredonia State. On Lowe's single, Fetes was thrown out at the plate. Sheehan followed with an RBI single to score Lowe who just beat the throw to the plate. Foster singled to put runners at the corner. Sheehan would score on a first and third play.
In the eighth, the Devils used a walk, a Lorenzo single and a hit by pitch to set the table. Fetes blasted a two-run double, and Lowe followed with an RBI sacrifice fly. Sheehan would then double and Foster would tack on the fifth run of the inning with a single.
The Devils had 16 hits.
John Bennett and Fetes had three apiece. Lorenzo, Foster and Sheehan had two-hit games.
In Game 2, Plattsburgh used the dominant pitching of Tyler Green to ride to the 8-1 victory. Green scattered four hits in a complete-game effort.
The Devils' run came courtesy of back-to-back doubles from
Kenny Johnston and
Kyle Koslowski.
Both teams now stand at 4-6 overall and 1-1 in the conference. The rubber match will be played at 3 p.m. on Thursday in Fort Myers.
