BOXSCORE 2 FORT MYERS, FLA. -- The Fredonia State baseball team dropped a pair of games to Baruch College on Monday by scores of 3-2 and 6-2.
The Devils took the lead in Game 1 on an RBI triple off the bat of
Dillon Lowe that plated
Conner Lorenzo, who had singled.
Baruch scored an unearned run in the second to tie the game. They added one in the fourth on a solo home run, and one in the fifth on a leadoff double followed by a single.
The Devils threatened in the bottom the fifth and sixth innings.
With
Justin Burns at second, Lorenzo lined a shot up the middle that the second baseman speared on the shortstop-side of the bag for an inning ending double play.
In the sixth,
Jake Nowak and
Dan Fetes singled to lead off the inning. Lowe then grounded into a 6-4-3 double play.
Brian Sheehan singled to score Nowak to make it 3-2 before the inning ended.
The Devils went 1-2-3 in the seventh.
Brian Sheehan had two hits for the Devils.
A trio of freshmen hurlers held the hard-hatting Bearcats to seven hits. Zach Jordon gave up one unearned run in three innings, allowing a pair of hits and striking out four.
Ben Senior allowed four hits struck out three in two innings.
Tommy Morris allowed one hit and struck out all six other batters in two innings of work.
In Game 2, the Devils were limited to four hits.
Chris Messina homered accounting for both runs.
Ian Gallagher added two hits and two stolen bases.
Baruch used a four-run third to take control of the game. Up 1-0, they led off the third with two singles and a double. Following a fielders choice that did not result in an out, a walk loaded the bases. A sacrifice fly and groundout plated the next two runs.
They tacked on the final run in the fifth on a sacrifice fly.
Steve Sturm took the loss on the mound. Zach Hugg tossed two innings of solid relief allowing one run. Freshman
Steven Ramsdell struck out a pair in one inning struck out a pair in one inning of work.
The Devils stand at 3-5. Following an off day on Tuesday, they take on Plattsburgh in Florida. It will be the first time the Devils competed in conference play outside of New York state.
