Women in control after Day 1; Men in third

RESULTS
BUFFALO, N.Y. -- Following Day 1 of the SUNYAC Swimming and Diving Championships, the Blue Devil women sit atop the team standings, while the men are third overall.

The day's events saw the Devils crown a pair of SUNYAC Champions, both in the diving tank. Sarah Ficarro won the women's 3-meter, while Ryan Fuller owned the 1-meter board for the men.

The Blue Devil women divers took five of the top eight spots, earning a total of 93 points for the team. Ficarro, Ashley Keller, Leanne Kies, Katelyn Haley and Heather Colby finished one through five, respectively. Breena Cogliandro finished eighth.

Fuller turned in a command performance with a total score of 488.75 off the 1-meter board. John Rodman and Joshua Croft finished fifth and seventh, respectively.

A number of team records fell for both teams. The men and women set new 200-freestyle-relay standards. The men were third overall in the event, finishing in 1:26.19. John Estanislau, Andrew Case, David Adamczak and Rob Sweeny made up that squad. The fourth-place women's team was made up of Rachel Morgano, Katie Donnelly, Jennifer Smith and Elizabeth Schake and finished in 1:39.00.

Schake placed sixth in the finals of the 50 freestyle in a time of 24.55, breaking her own school mark she established in the morning session by four-onehundreths of a second.

Lizzie Lodinsky broke the 500-freestyle mark finishing in 5:16.27 and in fifth place. The previous mark was set in the preliminaries earlier in the day by Emily Ginty (5:16.58).

Stephanie Andrasek set a Blue Devil record in the 200 IM with a time of 2:11.70 while finishing sixth.

The Devils wrapped up the evening by setting two more school records in the 400 medley relays. The women finished fourth in a time of 4:00.28.  Steph Rosa, Andrasek, Schake and Smith made up that squad. For the men, the quartet of Eric Jordan, Estanislau, Case and Sweeny finished in a time of 3:34.06 and in fifth place overall.

In other swimming events, Adrian Van Hall finished eighth in the 500 freestyle in 4:57.15. Rob Sweeny finished eighth in the 50 freestyle in 22:19.
