FREDONIA, N.Y. -- The Fredonia State women's volleyball team went 2-1 in pool play this weekend, finishing the conference portion of the season in second place. They had also gone 2-1 in the first round of pool play hosted at Geneseo.
Buffalo State earned the SUNYAC West Championship running the table with a perfect 6-0 mark. As the West Division champions, they will play host to the SUNYAC Championship on Nov. 2-4. The Bengals receive a first-round bye.
As the No. 2 seed from the West, the Devils will take on the No. 3 seed in the East Division in the tournament.
The weekend began with a 3-1 loss Friday to Buffalo State (22-8, 6-0 SUNYAC). On Saturday, the Devils defeated first Brockport (6-21, 0-6), then Oswego (11-16, 2-4) in straight sets.
In the Blue Devils' Friday match, Buffalo State took a big step toward landing the No. 1 West seed with a 19-25, 25-18, 25-20, and 25-22 win.

Lindsey Olson (Portville) were Fredonia State's top hitters with 13 and 10 kills, respectively. Freshman opposite
Paulina Rein (Baldwinsville) added eight kills and a team-high 18 digs.

Kelly Edinger (Rochester) was credited with 36 sets and 10 digs, freshman defensive specialist Lauren Hokoj (Lancaster) with 16 digs, junior libero/outside hitter
Lauren O'Hara (Canandaigua) with 11 digs, and freshman middle blocker/outside hitter
Meredith Smietana (Cheektowaga) with three block assists.
On Saturday, the Devils defeated Brockport 25-16, 25-21 and 26-24. Edinger tallied 31 assists in setting up Manning for 13 kills and Olson for 10 kills. Rein added seven kills. Hokaj added 13 digs.
In the finale over Oswego, the Devils scored wins by counts of 25-17, 25-18 and 25-19. Edinger duplicated her 31-assist effort. Olson had 11 kills and Manning had seven. Junior outside hitter
Kaitlin Orcutt (Hamburg/West Seneca) had four of the team's 10 service aces. Rein led the team with nine digs.
Overall, the Devils improved to 16-13. They play host to St. John Fisher on Tuesday at 7 p.m. in Steele Hall.
