Devils jump John Jay

Maspeth, N.Y.— The Fredonia State men's soccer team defeated John Jay, 3-0, Friday afternoon.

SUNY Fredonia improves to 5-2-0 this season. John Jay's brief one match winning streak stops as the Bloodhounds fall to 1-7-1.

The visiting Blue Devils scored a pair of goals in the first half of play to lead 2-0 at halftime. SUNY Fredonia then scored again in the second half to complete the win.

The Blue Devils' Tyler Williams blasted a direct kick from just outside the box to the left hand side of the net in the thirteenth minute to put SUNY Fredonia up 1-0.

SUNY Fredonia scored again at the 28:15 mark on a strike, his first of two, by Ryan Smith. Smith struck again in the sixtieth minute to round out the scoring.

Smith led all players with a game-high six shots, four of which were on goal. Meanwhile Jake Persons two assists, while Matt Grabowski and Cory Paine had one each.

For John Jay, Christian Munoz had two shots, both on goal, while Edward Gonzalez had one shot on net.

Bobby McGinnis played the first seventy-five minutes in net and stopped three shots, while reserve goalkeeper A.J. Grecco finished out the final fifteen minutes of the contest.

The Devils take on SUNY Farmingdale on Saturday at noon.
