FREDONIA, N.Y. -- The Fredonia State baseball team split a pair of games in SUNYAC baseball action on Friday at Ludwig Field, winning 3-0 and falling 1-0.
The Devils'
Jordan Hibbard was the winning pitcher for Fredonia State in Game 1, going 6 2/3 innings and allowing only three hits.
New Paltz hurler Chris Chismar turned the tables in Game 2, earning the shutout win for the Hawks, tossing a three-hitter. The Devil's
Matt Sullivan came out on the short end of the 1-0 contest.
In Game 1, The Devils broke a scoreless tie in the fifth.
Vinnie VanAuker led off the inning with a double. He was sacrificed to third, and scored on Tommy Dee's grounder. VanAuker beat the throw home, sliding in just under the catcher's tag.
The Devils tacked on two more in the sixth. With one out, New Paltz starter Andrew Grann issued back-to-back walks to
Taylor Gahagen and
Brian Sheehan. Both advanced on a groundout by
Dillon Lowe.
Joe Kephart then plated both with a line single to center.
The Devils'
Andy Dlugosz pitched the final 2 1/3 innings for his third save of the season. New Paltz shortstop Paul Merola was the only player on either team with two hits.
Hibbard improved to 4-2 on the season. Grann fell to 2-3. He allowed five hits, five walks and struck out six in a complete-game effort.
In Game 2, the Devils were limited to a pair of hits by
Dan Fetes and a single by
Taylor Gahagen. On the mound, Sullivan went 6 2/3 innings, giving up five hits, walking one and striking out four. Dlugosz threw one pitch in relief, getting a fly-ball out.
Chismar walked four and struck out 12 in addition to allowing three hits. He improved to 5-3 on the season.
The Devils now stand at 14-16, and 2-12 in the SUNYAC. New Paltz, who had a six-game win streak snapped in Game 1, is now 17-13 overall, and 7-6 in the conference.
The two teams are scheduled to meet in a single game Saturday at Noon.
