FREDONIA, N.Y. -- The Fredonia State men's basketball team takes a 4-4 overall and 1-1 SUNYAC record into the second semester, which starts with a SUNYAC stop in Oneonta for an 8 p.m. Friday tip-off.
The Blue Devils also play 4 p.m. Saturday at New Paltz.
“It's great to be back at it after such a long lay-off,” head coach Kevin Moore said. “My big concern though is, 'Are we going to be at the same level defensively that we were when we finished the first semester'.”
The Blue Devils won their last two games of 2010, and have won four of their last five games. During that stretch, they held opponents to just under 57 points per game, and that includes a 78-73 double-overtime win over Cortland.
The Blue Devils lead the SUNYAC in scoring defense overall, an average of 59.6 points allowed per game.
This weekend's challenge will be to adapt to two different opposing playing styles.
“Oneonta is very defensive oriented, like us, and makes it hard to run your offense,” Moore said. “New Paltz is very up-tempo and is going to just try to outscore you. I think my guys are excited about playing again and welcome the challenge.”
Sophomore guard
Joseph Monahan is averaging a team-high 11.1 points per game for the Blue Devils. Freshman center
Curtis Fluker leads the team in rebounding average (5.1) and is second in scoring average (8.5), while junior guard-forward
Leonard Smith is first in total assists (18) and total steals (14).
