BOXSCORE
FREDONIA, N.Y. -- Fredonia State was unable to defend Buffalo State's Barbara Kliszek in a SUNYAC women's soccer opener Saturday at Coyer Field.
Kliszek did all her team's scoring in a 4-2 victory by the Bengals (4-3-1, 1-0-0), who broke a seven-match losing streak to Fredonia State.
Kliszek's first goal put Buffalo State on top, 1-0, but Fredonia State countered with a goal by freshman midfielder Catie Hale (Lockport/Starpoint), assisted by freshman forward Katie Kleine (Cazenovia), at 30:07.
The Blue Devils' momentum was shortlived. Kliszek made it 2-1 in the 36th minute, and then 3-1 at 40th minute, which stood as the halftime score. The Blue Devils were outshot 15-1 in the half, with their only shot finding the net.
Kliszek's fourth goal at 54:07 made it 4-1 Buffalo State, before Kleine completed the scoring at 55:57. The Blue Devils were outshot 27-9 overall, while Buffalo State had a 5-3 advantage in corner kicks.
Fredonia State freshman goalkeeper Kayleigh Forger (Rochester/Churchville-Chili) made five saves in the first half. In the second half, sophomore Meaghan Meszaros (Selden/Newfield) allowed one goal and made seven saves.
