GENEVA, Pa. -- Down three with 25 seconds left, the Fredonia State women's basketball team was able to get off a pair of three-point attempts in the final six seconds, but could not convert, dropping a road contest, 63-60, vs. Geneva College.
A free throw by Geneva's Rachel Raoun put the Tornados up 63-60 with 25 seconds left. Raoun missed the second attempt as the Devils gained possession with a team rebound.
Following a trio of timeouts, one by Geneva and two by the Devils,
Grace Moore (Fredonia/Fredonia) fired up the first three-point attempt.
Caroline Hourihan (Buffalo/Nardin) rebounded the ball and the Devils called the game's final timeout.
Becky Hebert (Hilton/Hilton) managed a last-second attempt, but could not connect.
Liz Wierbinski (Camillus/West Genesee) led the Devils with 15 points, and added seven rebounds.
Nicole Calbi (Olean/Olean) added 12 points and four assists. Hourihan added a team-high eight rebounds and chipped in seven points.
Geneva (3-2) was paced by Alyse Scarsella with 15 points and 13 rebounds, and Beth DeLuca with 10 points.
The Devils led by as many as nine points in the second half. Following a Hourihan three pointer, the Devils led 43-34 with 14:57 left to play. The Devils' final lead came at 47-46 with 6:00 left to play.
The Devils' biggest lead of the game, 11 points, came following a Moore jumper, putting the Devils up 24-13 at the 8:08 mark of the first half. They led 32-27 at the half.
The Devils (2-3) return to action on Dec. 3rd and 4th, squaring off against Oswego and Cortland in Steele Hall.
