BOXSCORE

FREDONIA, N.Y. – Fredonia State's regular-season ended with a 2-1 overtime loss Tuesday to Rochester Institute of Technology.

RIT's Chelsea Shoemaker (Rochester/Aquinas) scored her second goal of the game – and of the season – in the 10th minute of overtime to complete a comeback by the Tigers (9-4-3).
The game was delayed in the 58th minute Tuesday after heavy rain and wind raked across University Stadium. The Blue Devils were leading 1-0 with 31:31 left in the game when the game was stopped, first to tend to an injured Rochester of Institute player, and then when the approaching storm arrived.
After the delay of nearly 30 minutes, the Tigers knotted the score on Shoemaker's first goal of the season. With her team on the attack, she took a short pass from Alexa Martinez (Holmdel, N.J.), circled to the left, and fired a bending shot into the top left corner behind Fredonia State goalkeeper Meaghan Meszaros (Selden/Newfield).
The game-winning goal was set up by a Fredonia State turnover in the midfield. After making the steal, Shoemaker made a long run and shot high to the left side. The wet ball deflected off Meszaros's hands and into the net.
Fredonia State took a 1-0 lead on the first collegiate goal by freshman Nicole Lauricella (Clarence), who tallied at 12:24 of the first half. A direct kick by freshman Taylor Wingerden (Macedon/Palmyra-Macedon) was touched in the goal box by junior Melissa Cummiskey (Clarence) onto Lauricella's foot directly in front of the goal.
RIT's Alyssa Henkel (Newark) made six saves during the second half and overtime to earn the victory. Meszaros made four saves while taking the loss.
Three Fredonia State seniors were recognized during a pre-game ceremony. Playing their final collegiate game were forward Julie LaPolla (Penfield), defender Nicole Campbell (Rochester/Greece Arcadia), and goalkeeper Jennifer Johnson (Goshen).
Johnson made two saves in the first half before she was relieved by Meszaros at the start of the second half.
The Blue Devils completed their season with an 8-9 record.
