Mikayla Capestrani, a junior from Jamesetown, N.Y., cleared 3.47 meters -- 11 feet, 4 1/2 inches -- to finish second in the pole vault and set a new Fredonia school record while competing Saturday in the Cortland Classic Invitational. Capestrani's vault was 2 1/4 inches higher than any Fredonia woman has ever gone. The previous school record was shared by Julia Schreier, Kristen Sawyer (Lockport, N.Y.), and Olivia Kurbs -- all either current or former teammates of Capestrani.
