Hess, a senior from Rose, N.Y., smashed his own school record in the men's 3,000 meters Saturday during the Polarbear Last Chance Qualifier hosted by Ohio Northern University. Hess shaved eight seconds off her own school record -- which he set while winning the SUNYAC men's 3K title the previous weekend -- and moved up to 11th on the NCAA Division III indoor performance list. As a result, he will be entered in the national championship meet this weekend in Winston-Salem, N.C.
