Sawyer, a freshman, broke the Fredonia indoor school record in the women's pole vault while competing Dec. 5 at the Kent State Golden Flash Gala. She cleared the bar at 3.46 meters, which converts to 11 feet, 4 1/4 inches. She eclipsed the previous indoor school record of 10 feet, 8 inches set by Chelsea Caruso in 2011. Sawyer was the top collegiate woman in the unseeded division of the Golden Flash Gala. She tied for second overall in the competition.
