Hess led the Blue Devils to the Penn State Behrend Invitational team title Saturday with a fourth-place finish in a field of 137 runners. He was the first NCAA Division III runner across the line in 25:54.8 for eight kilometers. He was followed by two teammates, Steve Whittemore and Chris Shartrand, as the Blue Devils went 4-5-6-10-14 to finish with 39 points, six points ahead of Lake Erie, an NCAA Division II program. There were 14 complete men's teams at the meet.
