Hess, a sophomore, was Fredonia State's lone representative -- male or female -- at the NCAA Division III Cross Country championships Nov. 17 at Terre Haute, Ind. Hess finished the 8,000-meter course in 26:15.9. He qualified for the national meet by virtue of a 12th place finish Nov. 10 in the Atlantic Regional at Rochester. Hess was competing in cross country for only the second year.
