ROCHESTER -- The Fredonia State indoor track and field team had 21 athletes earn SUNYAC championship meet qualifying times or distances at Thursday's RIT Invitational.

Five Blue Devils also won events.

They are:

Andrew Charsky won the men's triple jump a leap of 14.06 meters. The distance qualified him for the ECAC championships and put him in the Top 10 of the country in the event at this early juncture of the indoor season. Charsky also finished fifth in the long jump with a leap of 6.66 meters.

"He's worked extremely hard over the offseason," Fredonia State assistant coach Justin McQuality told the Dunkirk Observer. "He had a little success at the end of last year and that fueled him to come back and get focused and prove his strength. He is seeing results now.

“We have a long road ahead of us to where we want to be. I would be disappointed if he didn't do this well this early. Even though it was a huge personal best, I was expecting this out of him at this point. I think he has a lot more to give me. We have been training. He hasn't reached his peak performance yet. As soon as he hits that, we will see bigger and bigger things out of him."

Jonmichael Knapp  won the men's 400 meters in :51.48.

Emily Cummiskey won the triple jump by covering 10.81 meters. She was also second in the long jump at 5.14 meters.

Kathleen Goodberlet won the women's 20-pound weight throw with a toss of 12.44 meters. She was also fourth in the shot put with 10.70 meters.

Amanda Solly won the women's 5,000 meters with a time of 20:09.34.

Other top performances by Fredonia State men:

In running events, Anthony Piacentini qualified for SUNYACs in the mile with a first-place time of 4:32. In field events, Broncho Rollins finished second in the pole vault (14' 11 ¾”) to qualify for the SUNYAC and ECAC championships. Cody Dahleiden finished third (14 feet) and Ben Goebel fourth (13 feet). In the triple jump, Alex Brennan was fifth at 12.86 meters.

Other top performances by Fredonia State women:

In running events, Amanda Cocchiara qualified for SUNYAC championship in the one-mile run with a seventh-place time of 5:44. Hailey Griewisch qualified for the SUNYAC meet in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 10.74. Kelsey Travers was seventh in the 400 meters in 64.82 seconds.

In field events, Kelci Yousett cleared 10 feet in the pole vault to finish fourth and qualify for SUNYACs. In the shot put, Nicole Desens finished second at 11.04 meters. In the 20-pound weight throw, Jessica McClean and Loren Metzger tied for third at 11.93 meters, and Desens was eighth at 10.85 meters. All four qualified for the SUNYAC championships. Also, Alyssa O'Connor was third and Meghan Devine fifth in the triple jump. Their respective jumps were 10.02 meters and 9.68 meters.

"We have a lot of freshmen," Fredonia State coach Tom Wilson told the newspaper. "This was their first experience. To have 21 (SUNYAC qualifiers) right away, that is a huge deal. The first semester is coming to a close and the kids are leaving our practice. We hope they train hard on their own. Once they qualify, it takes that pressure off and we can focus on the smaller things. It's a huge feat. I couldn't be happier the way the team competed."
