The following information was taken from the Hall of Fame program published at the time of induction. Some editing was required:

William J. McPhee was a member of the Inaugural Class inducted into the Fredonia State Athletics Hall of Fame. The ceremony was held Sat., Sept. 27, 1986, at the Topiary Tree in the Campus Center.

Mr. McPhee, a 1954 graduate, earned a total of nine varsity letters from 1950-54. He lettered four times in men's basketball, four times in golf, and once in baseball He led the 1953-54 men's basketball team in scoring with 346 points. He held the record for most consecutive varsity starts (78) for many years and was ranked among the school's Top 10 career scorers when he was inducted with 826 points. He scored 29 points on Feb., 6, 1954 in a game against R.I.T.

Having earned his degree in Education from Fredonia State, followed by master's and doctorate deggrees from Indiana University, Mr. McPhee coached at the varsity level at three high schools and led the 1960 Dunkirk High School team to a Section VI AA basketball championship. He was serving as superintendent of schools at Amherst (N.Y.) Central School at the time of his induction.
