The following information was taken from the Hall of Fame program published at the time of induction. Some editing was required:
William D. Ludwig was a member of the Inaugural Class inducted into the Fredonia State Athletics Hall of Fame. The ceremony was held Sat., Sept. 27, 1986, at the Topiary Tree in the Campus Center.
Mr. Ludwig joined the staff at Fredonia in 1949. In addition to teaching Physical Education, he coached the Blue Devil baseball for 12 years, golf for 13 years, basketball for six years, and cross country for 10 years. He was the college's acting director of athletics from 1970-71, directing the men's intramural program for 20 years, and supervised the men's bowling team for seven years. He also served several terms on the Fredonia Village Board of Trustees and was active in other civic affairs.
A 1940 graduate of the University of Illinois, Mr. Ludwig earned a master's degree from Syracuse University (1946) and did post-master's work at West Virginia University. He retired from Fredonia State in 1980.
