A versatile and determined athlete, Steve Brickler was in large part responsible for much of the success of the Fredonia State men's soccer program from 1983-1986. A two-time First Team All-SUNYAC performer (1985, 1986), Mr. Brickler and his teammates participated in the SUNYAC finals during each of his four years at Fredonia State. In two of those four years, the Blue Devils were crowned SUNYAC champions. As a junior, he was the team's leading scorer and helped to propel the Blue Devils to a 15-3-1 record and an appearance in the NCAA Division III final four. His season season, the team went 19-2-2 and again advanced to the semifinal round of the NCAA tournament. As a senior in 1986, Mr. Brickler was named most valuable player of his team, First Team All New York State and SUNYAC Player of the Year. He was also Second Team All State in 1985 and shared Fredonia State's Male Athlete of the Year award for the 1986-87 academic year Ten years after his graduation in 1987, he remained one of Fredonia State's Top 10 career scorers. In addition to receiving a degree in Business Administration from Fredonia State, he also earned a degree in Elementary Education from Roberts Wesleyan College in 1997 and was working as a school teacher in the West Irondequoit (N.Y.) school district at the time of his induction.
