The following information was taken from the Hall of Fame program published at the time of induction. Some editing was required:
Ronald Phillips was a member of the Inaugural Class inducted into the Fredonia State Athletics Hall of Fame. The ceremony was held Sat., Sept. 27, 1986, at the Topiary Tree in the Campus Center.
Mr. Phillips played four years of men's soccer at Fredonia. He earned All-New York State in 1962, 1963, and 1965 and All-SUNYAC honors in 1963 and 1965. He was the first Blue Devil soccer player to earn All-America recognition, doing so in 1963 and 1965. His No. 1 jersey was retired in a ceremony during Ron Phillips Night on Feb. 16, 1966 -- the first-ever Fredonia athlete to attain such an honor. He was a tireless defensive standout and a true team leader.
A teacher and coach, Mr. Phillips received a Bachelor of Arts in Education in 1966. At the time of his induction, he was teaching at Attica (N.Y.) Central School and coaching the girls' soccer team. He also had coached boys' soccer and tennis, and girls' basketball.
