The following information was taken from the Hall of Fame program published at the time of induction. Some editing was required:
A four-year letterman with the varsity basketball team, "Fitz" was a member of the famed Ironmen team of 1942. As a playmaking guard noted for his error-free play, he led the 1939-40 team to an 11-6 record. A superb all-around athlete, Mr. FitzPatrick participated on championship football and softball teams at the intramural level prior to the addition of soccer and baseball as varsity sports. Mr. FitzPatrick was president of the senior class, participated in student government, and was a member of Phi Delta Kappa. During World War II, he served in the United States Air Force as a cryptographer in Okinawa. He graduated from Fredonia State in 1943 with a Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education and went on to earn master's and doctorate degrees from Columbia University in 1947 and 1955, respectively. At the time of his induction in 1987, he was a retired principal and teacher from the Somers High School.
