Fredonia State University Athletics

The following information was taken from the Hall of Fame program published at the time of induction. Some editing was required:

A member of the varsity basketball team during his undergraduate career at Fredonia State, Robert Coon also supported the athletic program in an administrative capacity as director of admissions and as the vice president for Student Affairs from 1969 until his retirement in 1991. During the 1960s and 1970s, a period of rapid growth for the athletic program, Mr. Coon secured additional funding for part-time coaches, recruiting materials, banquets, and the development of athletic facilities. A founding member of the Blue & White Booster Club, he understood the necessity of auxiliary funding for a limited budget that encompassed an ever-increasing number of athletic teams. Administrative representative to the original Athletic Hall of Fame committee, he supported the concept of honoring former Blue Devils for their accomplishments both as student-athletes and graduates.
