The following information was taken from the Hall of Fame program published at the time of induction. Some editing was required:

A four-year letterman in men's basketball and captain of the 1965-66 team, Richard Segerdahl was known for his rebounding as well as his outstanding defensive play. As a starter at forward and center, he always drew the toughest defensive assignments. In addition to being one of the top rebounders in the conference, he was also a capable scorer. At the time of his induction, he ranked second among Fredonia State's career rebound leaders (943 rebounds) and was among the college's top 20 in scoring (804 points). Mr. Segerdahl's 12.9 rebounds per game was a Fredonia State school record as was his 35 rebounds in a single game. He earned a bachelor's degree in Elementary Education from Fredonia State in 1966, a master's degree from Hofstra University in 1970, and a certification for administration supervision from Queens College in 1975. He was the superintendent of schools in the Island Trees Union Free School District in Levittown, N.Y., at the time of his induction.
