Kelly Sponholz won numerous SUNYAC honors and set countless springboard team, pool, and conference records before reaching the pinnacle: The 2009 NCAA Division III Women's 3-Meter Springboard championship with a then national-record 516.50 points. She was the second Fredonia woman's national champ in any sport, five days after fellow 2009 graduate and 2016 Hall of Fame inductee Julia Hopson Williamson won the NCAA 20-pound weight throw. In addition to finishing first in the 3-meter, Sponholz also was second in the 1-meter at the 2009 meet. Her other accolades consisted of six All-America and two honorable mention All-America awards, eight straight SUNYAC springboard titles, and four straight SUNYAC Diver of the Meet crowns. She was the 2009 recipient of the Grace Mowatt Award as the outstanding woman at the SUNYAC championship meet. She served as a Blue Devil graduate assistant while earning a master's degree in 2012.
