The following information was taken from the Hall of Fame program published at the time of induction. Some editing was required:
A transfer student from Erie Community College where he earned Junior College All-Regional Team honors, Jose Garcia was listed as the top recruit of the 1979 senior by Head Coach Tom Prevet in that year's edition of the Fredonia State men's soccer brochure. Mr. Garcia's assistant coach his first season of competition was 1989 Hall of Famer Pat Occhiuto and one of his teammates was senior Ralph Denis, a 1996 inductee. A 5' 7" striker, Mr. Garcia competed on the varsity squad for three seasons, during which the Blue Devils compiled a 30-12-3 record. He was an All SUNYAC selection all three years. He was also a First Team All New York State player in 1981. The 1979 soccer team advanced to the second round of the ECAC Upstate New York championship, losing to Hamilton College, 4-2. Although the 1980 team did not advance to post-season play, Mr. Garcia earned the distinction of being the team's leading scorer with nine goals and four assists for a 22-point season. Ranked as high as 11th nationally, the 1981 squad earned the ECAC championship title by defeating SUNY Geneseo, 3-2, and the University at Buffalo, 2-0. Again that season, Mr. Garcia was Fredonia State's leading scorer with 13 goals and seven assists. He earned his bachelor's degree in Biology in 1983 and added a doctorate in dental science in 1988 from Meharry Medical College. He was working as a dentist for Family Dentistry in Largo, Fla., at the time of his induction.
