About to begin his 56th consecutive season (in 2016-17) on the Fredonia men's basketball scorebook, Jim Polvino was believed to be the longest-tenured official scorer in all of college athletics. He began his duties in 1961 when Bill Ludwig, the former Blue Devil coach, administrator, and a Hall of Fame member, asked him to keep the book at home games. Polvino stayed on the job while attending college here and remained on long after. He kept the book for an estimated 550 home games at Old Main, Wheelock School, Steele Hall, and Dods Hall. He also has kept the book for several seasons of Fredonia women's basketball and has served as official scorer of the SUNYAC basketball tournament.
Update: Polvino was still scoring Fredonia women's and men's basketball through the 2017-18 season -- his 58th year of duty.
