The following information was taken from the Hall of Fame program published at the time of induction. Some editing was required:
A four-year letterman in baseball, Jack VandeVelde was a top performer as a pitcher. He had exceptional control and a big fastball who gave the Blue Devils an imposing presence on the mound during his entire collegiate career. An All-SUNYAC pitcher, Mr. VandeVelde threw seven shutouts and had a 19-11 career won-loss record from 1974 through 1977. Nearly 20 years after graduation, Mr. VandeVelde still held school records in fewest walks in a season (6 in 1974-75), most batters retired consecutively (23), and lowest earned run average (0.79 in 1975-76). In September 1974, he spun a pitcher's dream -- a perfect game vs. Geneseo. He graduated in 1977 with a bachelor's degree in Secondary Education-Social Studies and was working as a social services investigator for Chautauqua County (N.Y.) at the time of his induction.
