Greg Prechtl guided Fredonia State to its only SUNYAC title in men’s basketball (1992-93) and won the ECAC Upstate New York Tournament (1984-85). His 1991-92 team posted a program-best 22-9 record.

In addition to coaching honors, he twice received the Schoenfeld Award from the College Basketball Officials Organization as the college coach who best exemplified the highest degree of sportsmanship, character, and ethics.

Prechtl served as Assistant Athletic Director from 1990 to 1998 before he took over as Director of Athletics in 1998. Additional awards include the Fredonia Alumni Association Outstanding Achievement Award (1994); the Fredonia President’s Award for Excellence (2006); and the SUNYAC’s Dr. Patrick Damore Distinguished Service Award (2018).

On the court, he was the 1992 New York State Division III Coach of the Year, and National Association of Basketball Coaches East Region Coach of the Year. Prechtl graduated in 1969 with a Bachelor of Arts in English and a Master of Arts in Education in 1972. He had a relationship with Fredonia State athletics which spanned 54 years.
